The Deutschlandticket: Germany's everything-local pass

One subscription, every bus, tram, U-Bahn, S-Bahn and regional train in Germany: what €63/month covers, what it excludes, job tickets and cancellation.

Last updated: July 13, 2026

What does the Deutschlandticket cover?

The Deutschlandticket costs €63 per month (2026) and covers ALL local and regional public transport nationwide: buses, trams, U-Bahn, S-Bahn and regional trains (RB/RE) in every German city and region. It excludes long-distance ICE/IC/EC trains and Flixtrain. It is subscription-only, cancellable monthly.

Why it's the best deal in German life

Before 2023, a Munich monthly pass alone cost more. Now €63 rides Munich, then Berlin on the weekend (via regional trains if you're patient), then every village bus in between. Any commute + occasional trips beats per-ride pricing immediately: single rides run €2.80-4.30 in big cities - 20 rides and you're ahead.

The fine print that matters

  • Subscription only (monthly cancellable by the 10th for month-end ⚠️ VERIFY cutoff) - no single-month paper version; get it via any transit app (BVG, MVV, DB Navigator...)
  • NOT valid on ICE/IC/EC - the white fast trains. Regional-only means Berlin-Munich takes 8+ hours vs 4 (trains guide for when to pay for speed)
  • First class: not included; some regions sell upgrades
  • Bikes: NOT included - local bike day-passes still apply
  • Job-Ticket: employers subsidizing ≥25% trigger a further 5% state discount - many expats ride for €30-45; ask HR
  • Semester version: unis increasingly bundle a discounted Deutschland-Semesterticket ⚠️ VERIFY current €29-ish rate
